Playground Fun in Preschool

We have had an exciting and busy start to our year in preschool. We have been meeting and making new friends on our playground. Learning the playground rules is an important part of becoming a successful student. We are exploring and learning how to use all of the playground equipment like the merry-go-round and the funnel ball hoop. We love playing at Grober Gardens with all of our new friends.

This week's events

First graders at Seneca Grade School are diving into the Superkids reading curriculum with lots of excitement and creativity. As part of their learning, the students read a story about Oswald and his love of odd, or unusual pets. To bring the story to life, the first graders painted their own rocks to create unique “odd pets” of their own! The first graders are looking forward to more adventures with the Superkids as they continue to build their reading foundations.

September has been a busy month for second grade! On Wednesday, Sept. 18th. We took a trip to the Seneca Public Library and the Seneca Post office, to go along with our unit on citizenship and our community. We learned about the different clubs the library has to offer, and did a scavenger hunt to learn how to find books at the library. At the post office, we learned about how to mail letters to go along with our letter writing unit. On Tuesday, Sept. 23rd, we took a trip to Blackberry Farm to learn more about Johnny Appleseed. We got to ride on a hayrack ride, try some yummy apple treats, and explore their apple orchard. A big thank you to the Seneca Library, Seneca Post Office, and Blackberry Farm for some fun filled days!

Today the fourth grade traveled to LaSalle, Illinois to be a passenger on "The Volunteer." Students were able to listen as period-dressed guides told the stories of the I&M Canal passageway on the 76- foot long boat. The boat was pulled by the mule, Larry. We then were able to tour the Lock 16 Visitor Center. We enjoyed listening to what life was like for passengers of the I&M canal. We had a great day!

This week's events

The 3rd graders got to meet their 7th grade reading buddies for the first time this year. The kids did a get to know you activity, read books together, and enjoyed some lemonade!

8th grade traveled to North Campus today for their first meeting with their kindergarten buddies. We look forward to a great year with our buddies!

Congratulations to the SGS baseball team for winning the REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP tonight against Saratoga. The boys fought hard and made a comeback win in extra innings. They will move on to sectionals on Saturday to take on Peru Parkside. Go Raiders!

We want to thank Sarah and the staff at CF Industries for donating supplies to the school. We appreciate their generosity!

Congratulations to the SGS softball team on winning the Regional Championship today! They will now head to sectionals on Tuesday in Ladd. Go Raiders!

Seneca PSO is looking for volunteers for the upcoming bookfair September 23rd-24th! They will kick off the bookfair with a family night on Tuesday September 23rd and classes will visit during the school day 24th-26th!
