Seneca Grade School hosted the Illinois State Police and their dogs with the explosive unit at North Campus on October 19th. The visit was coordinated by Mr. Nick Sterling from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. Officer Joe Rodgers and his dog Chance and Officer Johanna Rivera and her dog Rosie were welcomed by students and staff during their morning presentation.
The dogs have been trained to smell explosives and have been used in a variety of large events including the Chicago Marathon, Lollapalooza and even a Taylor Swift concert. The dogs demonstrated how they alert their officers if there is something detected. The officers shared about their work and training with the dogs. They answered many questions from the students regarding their work. We appreciate the time they spent at our building!
