Novotney’s Navy 2009-2010

Novotney’s Navy 2009-2010

In 3rd-4th grade PE classes, students have the opportunity throughout the first semester to earn ribbons of various colors that are attached to a pin. Each ribbon color represents an area of fitness.  The chart below delineates the goal of each fitness component and its color of reward.  The mileage in the ENDURANCE category is accumulated throughout the semester.

Each Red=ENDURANCE (3 miles)

Each Purple=STRENGTH (60/75 points for sit ups/push ups)

Each Yellow=AGILITY (13 points in shuttle run) You must earn 2 to get a ribbon.

Each Green=FLEXIBILITY (sit and reach test)

As we completed this first semester, all students earned at least 3 ribbons. Surpassing class goals in endurance, we needed to add additional colored ribbons for this area. 4 reds=12 miles while a Navy with 2 stars=15 miles. Going the "extra miles" were a number of students that earned a Red/White/Blue ribbon which is the equivalent of 18 miles in a semester. OUTSTANDING!

Earning the ELITE status this year was an extraordinary group of students who ran 21 miles. Their effort earned them a GOLD ribbon with 2 stars. 2009-2010  ELITE runners include: Natalie Arwood, Molly Baker, Danny Ellis, Nathan Hawk, Abriana Jashari, Gareth Kent, Maddie Mott, Ryan Towne, Madison Maloney, Dan Gaurdado, Alexis Murphy, Bryce Nix, Carter Schuetz, Anna Spamanato, Thomas Adams, Brandon Calhoun, Owen Johnson, Riley Mathews and Kari-Lyn Wilson.

Each year a group of students tries to surpass the records of the year before and this year’s group was no exception.  Evidence of this attempt was the MARATHON group – individuals that ran 800 laps or more equaling over 26.2 miles – a marathon in distance.  Many in this group surpassed the 1000 lap mark which allowed them to accumulate crystals on their MARATHON ribbons. Listed below are the MARATHON qualifiers. Two years in a row now we have had 20 students reach the SELECT status of MARATHON. Way to go Navy Marathoners!!

Third Grade Marathoners:
Kenny Sangston
, Christian Stefaniak, Wyatt Baldauf, Nic Greco

Fourth Grade Marathoners:
Cody Altman, Raegan Babcock, Keenan Ellis, Jeremy Hepner, Ryan Sandness, Colton Altman, Liz Logan, Haley Rivett, Taylor Vroman, Taylor Bushman, McKenna Coffey, Paige Hepner, Shelby Lynch, Eve Odum, Rain Sanburg and Dominick Tischina
.

The goal of this activity is for children to see that their efforts will reap a reward.

Also, if they continue to persevere, good things will happen.

Fitness is an ongoing journey!
